Requirements for MOFA Taiwan Fellowship 2025:

  • Eligible applicants for the MOFA Fellowship include international professors, associate professors, assistant professors, post-doctoral researchers, and doctoral program students in relevant departments of foreign universities. Additionally, research fellows at a similar level in academic institutions abroad are also eligible to apply.
  • Applicants eligible for the program include those who have been endorsed by ROC (Taiwan) overseas embassies, with a specific emphasis on individuals who have expertise in Taiwan’s international relations or cross-strait ties.
  • Additionally, candidates must have a commitment to participate in this program for a duration ranging from three to twelve months.
  • Individuals who are currently engaged in research, teaching, or studying in Taiwan are ineligible for the MOFA Fellowship in Taiwan.
  • While participating in the Taiwan Fellowship program, MOFA fellows are ineligible to earn any additional scholarships from Taiwanese government organizations or academic institutions. Without the authorization of MOFA, it is not permissible to engage in part-time employment.
  • The beneficiaries will be responsible for covering any expenses that exceed the Fellowship amount.

Documents Required for MOFA Taiwan Fellowship Program:

  • Application form
  • Research proposal (3 pages with a standard research format)
  • Resume (including a list of publications)
  • 2 Letters of Recommendation (Or one recommendation letter and one letter of consent from chief administrator of your institute)

Scholarship Benefit:

  • The MOFA Fellowship in Taiwan offers the advantage of a monthly stipend for fellows. Payment will be remitted on a monthly basis, commencing at the start of each month.
  • Professors, associate professors, research fellows, and associate research fellows are paid NT$60,000.
  • Assistant professors, assistant research fellows, and doctoral scholars are granted a monthly stipend of NT$50,000.
  • Furthermore, all participants will be provided with economy class round-trip airfare.
  • In addition, fellows are provided with accident insurance. This encompasses medical insurance coverage for unforeseen injuries.
  • The accident insurance provides coverage of up to NT$1 million.

Application Process:

  • The application process is conducted through an online platform. Prior doing anything else, individuals are required to fully fill out an electronic application form. Complete the online form with meticulous attention.
  • Prior to proceeding, it is imperative to verify that you fulfill all the prerequisites of the MOFA Scholarship.
  • Applicants are needed to submit the necessary documents, along with their application form, to the R.O.C Embassy or Representative Office in their country of residency or the nearest one, for an initial evaluation.
  • The Embassy or Representative Office of the Republic of China (ROC) will accept the application, authenticate the information, and evaluate the applicant’s academic impact or potential.
  • Candidates will be selected by the committee based on input received from the Embassy or Representative Office of the R.O.C (Taiwan).
  • Likewise, candidates who are successful will be notified via email.
  • Subsequently, the fellows are required to establish communication with universities or research institutions in Taiwan and obtain a formal letter of approval for their research.
  • Upon receipt of the letter of consent, candidates will be issued a “Grant Authorization Letter” by the Taiwan Fellowship team, formally acknowledging them as grantees.
