Finland’s Tampere University is dedicated to identifying and assisting its most deserving, accomplished, and driven students. In order to carry out this goal, Tampere University provides financial aid to students who must pay tuition for bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes that are taught in English through its extensive Scholarships Programme. These scholarships provide worthy students with extra benefits and rewards in addition to covering their tuition costs.
Scholarships for Tampere University Tuition Fees
For a select few exceptionally gifted applicants in each programme, Tampere University offers an exclusive opportunity: Tampere University Tuition Fee Scholarships. For the full programme duration—three years for bachelor’s degrees, two years for master’s degrees, and five years for combined bachelor’s and master’s degrees—these scholarships pay 100% of the tuition costs.
Scholarships to Finland
Additionally, Tampere University is a part of the national Finland Scholarship programme, which runs through 2024. Finland grants scholarships to the most deserving candidates in each master’s programme. Finland scholarships include a generous relocation grant of 5000 €, which is paid to the student’s Finnish bank account upon arrival in Tampere and the start of their studies. The grant also covers the programme tuition fee for the first year of studies.
Furthermore, all recipients of the Finland scholarship are given a Tampere University Tuition Fee Scholarship for their second year of study. The full cost of tuition for the second year is covered by this scholarship. Recipients must progress in their studies at the normative pace and complete at least 55 credits during the academic year, as outlined in their personal study plan, in order to keep the full tuition fee scholarship. If this condition is not met, the scholarship amount for the upcoming academic year might be decreased.
Early Bird Discount
All fee-paying students at Tampere University are eligible for an early bird offer in addition to scholarships, with the exception of those who have already been granted a Finland Scholarship or a Tampere University Tuition Fee Scholarship at the time of admission. For the first year of study, this offer provides a 50% tuition fee reduction for the programme.
Students must accept the offered study spot and pay 50% of the first year tuition within two weeks of receiving admissions information in order to benefit from the early bird offer. It is noteworthy that this offer is restricted to the first year of study. All fee-paying students are eligible to apply for Tampere University Scholarships given out during study in subsequent years.
How Scholarship Applications Are Made
In order to be eligible for Tampere University Scholarships, candidates must apply for admission during the specified application period and include an application for the scholarship. The same online application used for admission at Studyinfo.fi is used to submit the scholarship application.
The admissions committee reviews all application materials, academic records, and the scholarship application letter (if any) in order to determine the applicant’s overall academic assessment. There is no need for any extra attachments with the scholarship application.
Applicants for bachelor’s programmes must declare during the application period that they intend to apply for a Tampere University Tuition Fee Scholarship and submit a scholarship application letter (no more than 3000 characters). In the letter, candidates should discuss why they are interested in and motivated by the study options they have selected, consider how their skills fit the profile of the programme, and explain how the coursework will advance their professional objectives.
In their admissions application, master’s programme applicants are required to declare their intention to apply for scholarships as well as select the scholarships they would like to apply for. Students must also include in their motivation letter a brief (roughly 150 words) summary of their academic achievements that supports their application for a merit-based scholarship.
Scholarships Offered While Pursuing Education
Tampere University keeps providing extra scholarships to help fee-paying students during their studies. Students who pay tuition fees and complete at least 55 credits in an academic year are eligible for the Tampere University Tuition Fee Scholarship, which covers 50% of annual tuition fees. This scholarship is awarded for one year at a time and is available to students after their first year of study.
The Tampere University International Advancement Scholarship is an additional scholarship that is awarded to fee-paying students who demonstrate rapid academic progress. Every year, students who pay tuition are eligible for this scholarship; those receiving a 100% tuition fee scholarship are not eligible. Students must either graduate from their degree within the intended completion time or complete at least 60 credits of coursework within the academic year in order to be eligible.
The Tampere University International Advancement Scholarship is awarded to students either upon graduation or in the autumn semester of the academic year. The award is for 1500 euros. It can be obtained more than once during the required study period for the degree (s).
The Fulbright-Tampere University Graduate Award and its exclusions
It is noteworthy that the aforementioned scholarships are not available to students enrolled in specific programmes, such as Tampere University’s Erasmus Mundus programme or the Fulbright-Tampere University Graduate Award programme.
Nonetheless, during the admissions process, candidates for the Fulbright-Tampere University Graduate Award may also apply for scholarships from Tampere University and/or Finland. This enables them to be eligible for the Finland scholarship and/or the Tampere University scholarship in the event that they do not receive the Fulbright-Tampere University Graduate Award.
